The National Italian American Sports
Hall of Fame of Massachusetts is the
local chapter of the National
Italian American Sports Hall of Fame
based in Chicago. The mission of our
chapter is two fold. First is to
annually honor and induct local
Italian-Americans who excel in the
world of athletics. Among recent
inductees were Holy Cross Legend
Jim Marcellino, Patriots VP of Player Personnel
Scott Pioli, Red Sox Manager
Terry Francona, Everett High Football Coach
John DiBiaso,
Super Bowl Champion
Peter Cronan,
and
Lacrosse Standout
Karen Geromini.
The other, more important role of
our organization is to award
scholarships to local student
athletes. Each year, as our
organization grows, we increase the
amount of money we award, this year
we awarded $30,000 in scholarships.
In order to raise the funds
for these scholarships, we hold a
series of events including our
Annual Induction Banquet, Cigar
Night, Golf
Tournament, Boxing Night and Bocce
Tournament. We also hold an informal
Membership Dinner each spring, where
we invite a local Italian American
Sports Celebrity to speak to and
meet our membership.
